DA-AMAD facilitates Market Matching to Calabasa Farmers from Talugtug

One of the core functions of the department, aside from the provision of technical assistance and inputs to farmers in the production of various crops is the facilitation of viable markets to the harvested produce of farmers. Usually, the farmers after harvesting still has the arduous task of searching for a feasible market for their crops. The Buted Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) Association of Talugtug, Nueva Ecija has provided 3.5 metric tons of calabasa which was market matched by the Agribusiness & Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) through the efforts of Ms. Carmencita S. Nogoy, Senior Agriculturist.

“We have coordinated with the Buted Small Water Impounding Project (SWIP) Association through Ms. Jennilyn Cormes of Bureau of Soils & Water Management (BSWM) who requested marketing assistance for the farmers’ group. We were able to link the farmers association with the Bulacan Farmers Association member, Ms. Lilibeth Sanchez of San Ildefonso, Bulacan”, Ms. Nogoy stressed. She added that aside from the Sanchez Farm, the harvested calabasa will also be sold to Walter Mart branch at North Edsa, Quezon City.Mr. Joe Pangalilingan expressed his gratitude to the market linkage facilitated by DA-AMAD. “Our vegetables were sold at P8.00 per kilo and thankful for the opportunity to have tie-up with other farmers associations and private organizations as well” the Chairman exclaimed.

Aside from the supplied markets mentioned, the produced calabasa of Buted will also be sold to Kadiwa Outlet in Camp Olivas and Phoenix gasoline station at Cutcut, Angeles City. “Our utmost concern is to strengthen market linkages by providing readily available buyers and providing trucking service wherein we help the farmers transport their vegetables to the outlets” Nogoy added.
