DISTRIBUTION OF LIVELIHOOD ASSISTANCE FOR ASF AFFECTED BACKYARD HOG RAISERS CONTINUES

CITY OF SAN, FERNANDO—The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office III through the Livestock banner program continues to distribute livelihood assistance for African Swine Fever affected backyard hog raisers of Central Luzon.

Amounting to 200 million pesos, the livelihood assistance program aims to provide start-up or alternative source of income for ASF affected individuals. Under this program, the Department will dole-out large animals (Cattle and Buffalo), goats and poultry animals (Free range, layer and broiler chicken) to backyard hog raisers.

For the distribution guidelines, hog raisers with 20 pigs culled will be given a carabao or cattle,10 culled pigs will receive goat and for below 10 heads will be receiving poultry animals.

As of October 26, 2020, a total of 400,000 broiler chicks, 6,750 layer chickens, 2,800 Free-range chickens, 1,422 carabaos, 1,839 cattles, and 1,932 goats were distributed.

One of the beneficiaries, Sunnyset Fucio expressed his gratefulness towards the DA’s livelihood assistance,” Nagpapasalamat po kami sa ibinigay sa aming napakalaking tulong sa pangkabuhayan po naming at pipilitin po naming maparami ang baka at kalabaw po na ibinigay na malaking tulong po sa amin” Ficio exclaimed.

Meanwhile, Regional Technical Director for DA-RFO 3 Research, Regulatory and Integrated Laboratory Division said on his interview in the Ani at Kita sa Agrikultura TV program, “Sa mga hindi pa po nakatanggap ng ayuda na tinamaan ng ASF, ang Department of Agriculture po lalo na po itong ating Regional Field Office 3 ay ginagawa po ang lahat para mai-submit na sa national ang lahat ng apektado para mabigyan ng karampatang pondo para mabayaran po nating lahat ng baboy nating kinull dahil sa African Swine Fever”, he professed.

Moreover, the indemnity payment for ASF affected hog raisers continues.###
